The bottom line
Moneris Flat Rate costs 2.65% + 10¢ per in-person card sale, and Interac debit is 12¢. On top of that, you rent the Moneris Go terminal for $34.95 a month and pay a $5 software fee.
At $10,000 a month in credit card sales over 400 payments, that’s about $345 a month. The rate is easy to predict, but the monthly costs mean a slow month still costs you about $40 before you sell anything.

Who it’s for
- Owners who want a predictable rate. Moneris says its Flat Rate is “the ideal option for businesses that value cost certainty and predictability.”
- Businesses where many customers pay by debit. Interac is a flat 12¢ in person, whatever the size of the sale.
- BMO and RBC customers. Moneris says deposits show up the very next day, even on non-business days, with those banks.
- Businesses that take a lot of Amex. American Express is included in the flat rate.
Who should skip it
- Small or seasonal businesses. The terminal rental and software fee add up to $39.95 a month, even in a month with no sales.
- Online shops that take Interac. Interac costs $1.00 per payment online or in an app, versus 12¢ in person.
- Anyone who wants the contract terms up front. Moneris doesn’t publish its contract length or cancellation fee.
The catch
You rent the terminal. Moneris lists the Moneris Go terminal from $34.95 a month per terminal and doesn’t publish a price to buy one. Two terminals means two rental fees.
The small fees add up. Moneris publishes a list of incidental fees: a $5 Moneris Go software fee, a $5 minimum merchant discount rate, a $2 paper statement fee, $2.50 for an aged close batch and 8¢ for dial communications. It doesn’t say how often some of these are charged, and it notes that “additional fees may apply for other products and services.”
Chargebacks cost more than at some rivals. Moneris lists $25 per chargeback and $80 for authorization chargeback handling.
The contract terms aren’t published. Ask for the term, the cancellation fee and what happens to the terminal rental if you leave early, in writing.
The interchange-plus plan has no published markup. Moneris also offers Simplified Pricing, which is interchange-plus. The markup is based on your business type and volume, and you get it by quote. That plan also has a foreign card fee of 0.80%, up to 1.00%.
A change of ownership is coming
Moneris is owned by BMO and RBC today. On August 10, 2026, Moneris announced that Francisco Partners has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire it. Moneris says the deal is expected to close by the end of the first quarter of BMO and RBC’s fiscal year 2027.
We don’t know what will change after the sale. If you sign now, ask whether your rate and terms are guaranteed, and for how long.
What it costs at your size
These are estimates. They use Moneris Flat Rate and the $39.95 a month we count for one rented Moneris Go terminal ($34.95) and the software fee ($5). Moneris doesn’t say how often the software fee is billed, so we treat it as monthly. They leave out paper statements and other incidental fees.
Example 1: $10,000 a month in person, 400 credit card payments.
- Percentage: 2.65% × $10,000 = $265
- Per payment: 400 × 10¢ = $40
- Terminal and software: $34.95 + $5 = $39.95
- Estimated total: $344.95 a month, an effective rate of about 3.45%
Example 2: the same $10,000 and 400 payments, but half paid by Interac debit.
- Credit: 2.65% × $5,000 = $132.50, plus 200 × 10¢ = $20, for $152.50
- Debit: 200 × 12¢ = $24
- Terminal and software: $39.95
- Estimated total: $216.45 a month
Debit is where flat per-payment pricing helps. The 12¢ stays the same on a $20 sale or a $500 sale.
