The bottom line
Clearly Payments is a Canadian interchange-plus processor. You pay the card networks’ cost (called interchange) plus a published markup, starting at 0.38% + 8¢ per in-person sale once you process $150,000 a year in cards.
There’s no contract and no cancellation fee. But it doesn’t publish a markup for businesses under $150,000 a year, and terminal rental is extra and not priced publicly.

The rates in the table above are Clearly’s markup only, for the $150,000 to $300,000 a year tier. Your total rate is that markup plus interchange.
Who it’s for
- Established businesses doing at least $150,000 a year in card sales. That’s where Clearly’s published markups start.
- Owners who want to see the markup in writing. Clearly publishes every tier, from $150,000 up to $10 million a year.
- Anyone who doesn’t want to be locked in. Clearly says there are no locked-in contracts and no cancellation fee.
Who should skip it
- Businesses under $150,000 a year in card sales. There’s no published markup for you, so you’d need a quote.
- Owners who want one fixed rate. With interchange-plus, your total moves with the cards your customers use.
- Shops where most customers pay by debit. Clearly doesn’t publish its Interac debit price.
- Anyone who needs to know the full hardware cost up front. Terminal rental is extra and not priced on the site.
The catch
The markup isn’t the total. 0.38% + 8¢ is Clearly’s share. Interchange is added on top, and it changes with each card.
No published price for smaller businesses. The Cost Plus tiers start at $150,000 a year. Below that, you have to ask.
Terminal rental costs extra. Clearly says “terminal rental is additional where needed,” and doesn’t list a price.
Debit isn’t priced publicly. Interac pricing isn’t on the pricing pages.
The membership fee doesn’t shrink in a slow month. Clearly says a fixed membership fee “stays part of the cost even in a quieter month.”
Card costs can still change. Clearly says it does not raise its markup, but bank and card-network costs underneath it can change.
What it costs at your size
We can’t give you a total for Clearly Payments without your statement, because interchange depends on your card mix. What we can show is Clearly’s share, which is published.
Example: $15,000 a month in person ($180,000 a year), 500 payments, Cost Plus pricing.
- Clearly’s markup: 0.38% × $15,000 = $57, plus 500 × 8¢ = $40
- Clearly’s share: $97 a month, plus interchange and terminal rental on top
That $97 is not your bill. Your bill adds the interchange on all 500 payments and whatever the terminal rental costs.
We used $15,000 a month, not $10,000, because $10,000 a month is $120,000 a year, which is under Clearly’s lowest published tier.
The markup gets smaller as your yearly card sales grow:
| Yearly card sales | In person | Online or keyed |
|---|---|---|
| $150K to $300K | 0.38% + 8¢ | 0.48% + 23¢ |
| $300K to $600K | 0.33% + 6¢ | 0.43% + 18¢ |
| $600K to $1M | 0.28% + 6¢ | 0.38% + 17¢ |
| $1M to $3M | 0.23% + 5¢ | 0.33% + 14¢ |
| $3M to $10M | 0.15% + 4¢ | 0.23% + 12¢ |
All rates above are Clearly’s markup on top of interchange.
The membership option. Clearly also offers a membership model: Basic at $99 a month plus 8¢ per transaction for up to $50,000 a month, or Pro at $189 a month plus 6¢ per transaction for $50,000 to $250,000 a month. It’s for Canadian businesses only. Ask Clearly how the underlying card costs are billed on a membership plan before you compare it.
The fairest test: find your real rate in the fee calculator, then ask Clearly to price the same month.

Common questions
What are Clearly Payments' fees?
On its Cost Plus pricing, Clearly Payments charges interchange plus a markup. For $150,000 to $300,000 a year in card sales, the markup is 0.38% + 8¢ in person and 0.48% + 23¢ online or keyed in. The markup gets smaller in higher volume tiers. Interchange is added on top, so your total is higher.
Does Clearly Payments have a contract or cancellation fee?
No. Clearly Payments says there are no locked-in contracts and no cancellation fee. That makes it easier to try, since you can leave if the numbers don't work. Terminal rental is extra, though, so ask how the rental works if you cancel.
What is the Clearly Payments membership plan?
It's a second pricing model. Basic is $99 a month plus 8¢ per transaction, for up to $50,000 a month in processing. Pro is $189 a month plus 6¢ per transaction, for $50,000 to $250,000 a month. Clearly says membership is for Canadian businesses only, and the fee stays the same in a quiet month.
Does Clearly Payments raise its rates?
Clearly Payments says it does not increase its processing markup, but that the underlying bank and card-network costs can change. So your markup should stay put, while the interchange part of your bill can still move. Keep your statements and check your real rate every few months.
