What selling on Etsy really costs a Canadian shop

Canadian sellers pay two fees US sellers don't: a regulatory operating fee on every sale, and a higher processing rate on overseas orders.

The short answer: a Canadian Etsy sale pays a 0.20 USD listing fee (about $0.28), a 6.5% transaction fee, 3% + $0.25 processing for buyers in Canada or the US (4% + $0.25 for buyers elsewhere) and a 0.5% regulatory operating fee. On a $30 item with $6 shipping to a Canadian buyer, that is $4.13 and Etsy pays you $31.87.

What is different for Canadian sellers

  • Regulatory operating fee, 0.5%. Charged on every sale by a Canadian shop, on the item price, shipping and gift wrap. Tax collected by Etsy is left out.
  • Overseas orders cost more to process. Buyers in Canada and the US are both charged the domestic 3% + $0.25. Buyers anywhere else are charged 4% + $0.25. On the example sale above that is $4.49 instead of $4.13.
  • Some fees are set in US dollars. Etsy publishes the 0.20 USD listing fee, the Offsite Ads cap of 100 USD and the $10,000 USD Offsite Ads threshold in US dollars, and converts them at the market rate when they post. We show them at the Bank of Canada rate of 1.4054 CAD per USD (2026-10-20); your statement may differ slightly.
  • Your price includes tax. For Canadian sellers, the listing price is meant to include any tax you are responsible for, and the transaction fee is charged on that price.

Every fee on an Etsy sale

  1. Listing fee, 0.20 USD, whether or not the item sells. The listing lasts four months, and each extra unit sold from it costs another 0.20 USD.
  2. Transaction fee, 6.5% of the item price, shipping and gift wrap.
  3. Payment processing, 3% + $0.25 on the whole order including shipping and tax (4% for overseas buyers).
  4. Regulatory operating fee, 0.5%.
  5. Offsite Ads, only when the sale came from an Etsy ad on another website: 15%, or 12% once your shop has ever sold $10,000 USD in a year, capped at 100 USD (about $141) per order.
Regular sales to a buyer in Canada or the US: one item, $5 shipping, no Offsite Ad. Canadian dollars.

Offsite Ads

Offsite Ads cost 15% of the order for shops that have sold less than $10,000 USD in the past 365 days, and those shops can opt out. Once a shop has ever reached $10,000 USD in a 365-day period, the ads are mandatory for the life of the shop at 12%. On the example sale above, an Offsite Ad raises Etsy’s total from $4.13 to $9.53.
